Areas of Practice


Psychological Evaluation

 

An evalaution of one’s mental health or intellectual functioning. If any are identified, the included report will provide mental health diagnosis and treatment recommendations.


Neuropsychological Screening

An interview is conducted to gather background information and present symptoms, then a screening measure is administered to identify whether a more comprehensive evaluation is recommended.


Psycholegal Evaluations or Consultation

 
  • Parenting Capacity: A comprehensive evaluation of a parent’s risk for neglect and/or abuse, particularly as it relates to mental Illness, substance abuse, or intellectual disability. If any are identified, treatment and service recommendations are provided in order to address the areas of concern to assist in building the capacity to safely parent.

    • Private cases with active DCS involvement are not currently accepted due to Dr. Richards’ role as a unit consultant for the Department.

  • Competence to Stand Trial (CST): A CST evaluation will assesses whether a mental illness interferes with the defendant’s ability to understand and participate in the criminal proceedings against them.

  • Guility Except Insane (GEI): A GEI evalaution reviews the defendant’s mental status at the time of the offense.


Expert Consultation

 

Dr. Richards can be retained to provide a written report and/or testimony in matters that relate to her area of practice or expertise based upon research, education, and training. The scope of the work is agreed upon by Dr. Richards and the retaining party prior to acceptance of the case and retainer payment.
